Striking a Balance Between Insight and Outcome

Helping my 1:1 coaching clients to refine their websites is one of my specialties. My client may be trying to target private-pay clients in a specific niche, but they haven't figured out how to convey their unique value proposition on their website. They end up feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to proceed.

This is where I come in. I help them to clarify their message and create a website that truly speaks to their ideal clients. This helps their website clearly state who their services are for and how their clients will benefit from working with them. However, one big mistake I often see is when therapists have a fantastic write-up about their specialties, but then fall a bit flat when talking about what clients will actually achieve through therapy.

Many Therapists Focus on the Insight and Understanding that Comes From Therapy.

While this is certainly important, it's not necessarily what potential clients are looking for when seeking therapy. They want to know how therapy will positively impact their lives and help them reach their desired outcomes. This is where therapists often falter in their messaging. Your clients want to read about how therapy with you will specifically help them, not just the process or theories behind it.

As a therapist, it's easy to get caught up in the more abstract and intellectual aspects of therapy. But when marketing your private practice, it's important to remember that your clients are looking for tangible results and outcomes. That's why I work with my clients to strike a balance between highlighting their expertise and showcasing the benefits their clients will see from therapy.

Your Clients Want to Know How Therapy With You Will Transform Their Lives.

Your potential and ideal clients want to know how therapy will positively impact their daily lives. They're not just looking for a deeper understanding of themselves and their past events, they want to see real changes in the present moment. They want to know that therapy can help them create a different, better future for themselves. But they don't want a vague promise, they want to know exactly how therapy will lead them there.

For instance, instead of just saying "Therapy can help you understand your childhood experiences," try highlighting the real-life impact of therapy by saying "Therapy can help you heal from childhood trauma and build healthier relationships." Similarly, rather than simply stating "Therapy can help you cope with stressors better," try emphasizing the practical benefits by saying "You will learn real-life coping strategies to manage stress and anxiety, and live a more balanced life."

This is Where Striking a Balance is Key.

When crafting your website copy, it's crucial to strike a balance between insight and outcome. Yes, helping your clients gain insight and understanding is important, but it's equally essential to highlight the transformational and practical benefits of therapy. Don't just focus on one aspect; incorporate both into your messaging. Emphasize the transformation, the change, and the practical application of what clients will learn in therapy.

However, there are ways to do this without overwhelming your potential clients.

Avoid Solely Using Learning-Oriented Language.

While understanding and insight are crucial components of therapy, using only this type of language can make your messaging feel static and boring. Infuse outcome-oriented language that conveys tangible benefits and action. Use words like transformation, change, healing, growth, and empowerment- these all evoke a sense of progress and positive change for your clients.

Highlight How Therapy Can Positively Impact Daily Lives.

Your potential clients want to know that therapy can help them in their everyday life. They want to know if therapy is going to improve their relationships, work, and overall well-being. Use language that showcases the practical benefits of therapy, such as building healthier relationships, managing stress better, or increasing self-confidence. These are the tangible benefits that they are looking for and will motivate them to take action toward seeking your services.

Focus on the Transformational Aspects of Therapy.

People seek therapy because they want to transform their lives in some way. Whether it's healing from past trauma, managing mental health struggles, or improving relationships, they are looking for change and transformation. Make sure to communicate this aspect of therapy in your messaging by highlighting how therapy can help clients restructure their relationship with past events, develop healthier coping strategies, and create a better future for themselves.

Communicate How Therapy Can Help Create a Different and Better Future.

One of the most appealing aspects of therapy is that it offers hope for a better future. Your potential clients want to see how therapy can help them create a different and improved version of themselves. Use language that speaks to this, such as "Transform the way you see yourself and your life," or "Unlock your full potential for personal growth and success." This will inspire them to take that first step towards seeking therapy.

These small tweaks in your messaging can make a significant impact on converting website visitors into clients.
